After losing his hand in a fireworks accident, Marine Corps veteran Jesse Woodiel discovered the transformative power of adaptive sports through a surfing program that changed his perspective on disability. He was one of many veterans who participated in a recent Adaptive Adventures event at Curt Gowdy State Park, which offers free, fully inclusive outdoor recreation opportunities to veterans with physical disabilities. Led by a team with lived experience, the organization empowers participants to regain independence, combat isolation, and rediscover joy through sports like biking, climbing, and kayaking.
